Main Street in Newark, Delaware is where history truly comes alive. A bit of history from the Deer Park's website: "During the American Revolution, soldiers stayed at the St. Patrick's Inn and it is stated that George Washington spent a night. On December 23, 1843, Edgar Allen Poe lectured at the Newark Academy. As he was attempting to descend from a carriage at the Inn, he was reputed to have fallen in the mud and was so upset that he put a curse on the building. 'A curse upon this place! All who enter shall have to return!' Patrons found this so amusing that they carried Poe into the tavern with a hero's welcome. " Now THOSE are historical bonafides!

My own personal history includes a stop at the Deer Park the night after I turned 21. I may have had a beer (or four) there and gnoshed hard on a plate of nachos. A worthy bar band was belting out some tunes (I wish I could remember who the band was) and all was right in the world. I would love to go back to that time... fortunately I can still go back to the place!
